Have you ever had a to-do list that seems to never get smaller? It seems every time you scratch one thing off it is now three or four lines longer than last time you really looked at it?
They say that, ‘every action has an equal and opposite reaction’. That explains my to-do list that I started a few days after scheduling my knee replacement surgery.
I started the list so that I would hopefully not forget to take care of some of the minor things that needed to be done before I leave for Nashville on July 24th. Most of the things on the list are pretty simple while others are a bit more complex that will require some scheduling along with assistance from others to get them accomplished.
Regardless of the simplicity of complexity of the item on the list every time I mark one off I seem to be adding at least one or more in it’s place. Like yesterday when I went to the dentist to get clearance for surgery. Now I’ll admit that this was the first time that I have been to the dentist in over 10 years, so I was expecting some issues. Luckily I don’t have anything major but I did spend over an hour in the chair getting my teeth cleaned and polished. The only thing that the dentist wants to fix is to replace a filling that has fallen out. So as I ticked off getting my clearance, I added going back for the re-filling.
For those wondering here are a few of the items on my to-do list:
- Power of Attorney
- Prepare frozen meals
- Build a monitor stand
- Coordinate post-surgery items
- Make house safe for me after surgery
- Eye exam
While that is only a brief snapshot of what has to be done before surgery it gives you a look at what my life will be revolved around over the next 6 weeks. Add in that I am going to Atlanta for five nights at the beginning of July and an 11-day online poker series that I am going to cover in July my time is going to be busy, hectic, and outright crazy.
I am now at the six week mark from my surgery date. With many things still left unchecked from my to-do list I am hoping that the list will eventually start to shorten rather than continue to grow but in reality I know that I will be busy up to me leaving the day before my surgery to go have dinner with friends. Hopefully at that point my to-do list will look like the picture above.
